Association of Washington Cities Support for Grandview United

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Grandview United was fortunate to be connected with Tammy Fellin. the Municipal Policy Associate (social and human services, criminal justice, health care, and affordable housing) for the Association of Wahsington Cities. Tammy heard about our efforts while attending a conference in Richmond, Virginia and expressed an interest in connecting the Grandview United effort with the efforts of the AWC.

She solicited our input for an upcoming edition of the AWC Legislative Bulletin describing our efforts in October. The article has gone to print and was included in the December 12, 2008 edition of the AWC bulletin.

Grandview United would like to thank Tammy for her efforts and her contribution to our continued success. She is working hard four us on the legislative front at AWC on Juvenile Justice issues and continues to keep us informed and participating in the processes in Olympia. Thanks again Tammy!

Grassroots effort to break down barriers and unite for Peace and Safety

Grandview, WA September 30, 2008 March with us for peace and community unity on Saturday, October 25 to Sunnyview Park on Wine Country Road between Sunnyside and Grandview. Jointly coordinated by Grandview United and Barrios Unidos of Grandview and supported by the Grandview and Sunnyside School Districts, the rally will begin with a joint march from both cities to meet in the park located between these two cities. The symbolism of marching from each of the cities to unite in the middle brings a special poignancy for community members plagued by a recent rash of gang activity and violence.

Details:

Those wishing to join in the march will gather simultaneously starting at 11:30 a.m. at Country Park (fairgrounds) in Grandview and Sunnyside High School parking lot. The march will begin at 12:00 p.m. and travel along the paved trail converging at Sunnyview Park at approximately 1:00 p.m. Activities at the park will include hearing from community members impacted by recent gang activity, sharing information on block watch and other community intervention strategies, musical performances, and connecting with community resources.

Join us in our mission of “Uniting for a Safer Community.” It is our united desire to live in a community where we are all safe and free from the violent influences of gang activity. Only through joining forces as a community of concerned and capable individuals can we replace the negative influences with positive alternatives. Unite with us in our mission and turn words into action on October 25, 2008. If you would like more information on how to get involved, please contact Grandview United or Barrios Unidos.

Join us for a day without color. Attendees are encouraged to wear white and bring a canned food donation.
